Has it happened to you? I’m in the middle of the longest dry spell ever. I am by no means artsy, but I love my photography, and love playing guitar. Yet, for months now I feel I’ve lost it. I’ve taken my new camera out 30 times and come home with nothing. My guitars I feel I should just sell and let someone with some desire enjoy. Earlier this week it really hit home. I spent a whole day staring at this screen finding nothing to write about. I couldn’t come up with a damn thing. So I decided to take the week off from GCH, photography, photoshop and all my usual undertakings. Instead of trying to think of that next picture or blog post, I thought I’d focus on something new and different.
I headed off to the library and instead of dashing in, grabbing a book and dashing out, I sat down. I was doing some research on design for this page, and sat by the second floor window. It overlooks part of the main street of our little town. I was surprised at how relaxed I became. I enjoyed getting away from this desk so much, every morning now I make myself a coffee, and head to the library for a couple of hours. This new ritual has been a breath of fresh air. I recommend everyone that hasn’t hung out at the library in years, go and try it. It’s much more fun when you don’t have to!
I also felt the need to learn something new. Something I’ve never had any interest in I thought would be best. Really shake things up some and take myself in a new direction. I decided, while sitting reading at the library, that I would learn how to draw, or sketch. Now, I have never been able to sketch, or had a desire for this artistic endeavour. Perfect! I borrowed a “how to” book last week and am really enjoying it. I’ve actually surprised myself and created a couple of decent sketches! Wow, suddenly I’m feeling creative again! I’m starting to feel like a new man! Go figure, but I feel great for the first time in ages!
