My New Chainsaw!!
by John on Jul.12, 2010, under Guy Stuff
I bought a new chainsaw the other day and talk about a good time! If your a guy and don’t own a chainsaw, go get one right now. I didn’t realize how much fun it would be firing that beautiful wonderful toy up and killing some trees! I’ve killed a few now and want to kill a few more on the estate but I’ve had a glitch. The wife. Apparently I’ve slaughtered enough tree’s this year. So if you need a tree killed, just ” pick up the phone, I’m always home, call me anytime, just ring, three-six-two-four-three-six, hey
I lead a life of crime…….
Dirty deeds,done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds………………….”:)
Our 4 Leaf Clover Patch
by John on Jul.10, 2010, under Guy Stuff
Now we have quite a bit of clover this year since no one can spray their yard anymore, and at the start of summer, Jan somehow noticed a 4 leaf clover in our side yard. She called me over and the two of us got down on our knees and prowled through the patch finding a couple of more. I couldn’t believe it. I have never found one before let alone 3 at the same time. The next week I was walking by the patch and decided to check it, and again I found 2 new ones! I was very careful not to mow over our clover and now Jan has put a small fence around it. We’re getting several four leaf clovers a week from the little patch. Here’s our count so far:
14-four leaf clovers
2-five leaf clovers
So has the clover brought us luck? Well I’m not sure. I can say that since it’s discovery, I’ve started making more money than I have in awhile. Jan now has a nice newer vehicle and what could have been a family tragedy for her, has tuned into a bit of a miracle.
How to make a Portable Application
by John on Jul.04, 2010, under Computing
This is simple and I thought you guys might enjoy it. It should work for most any program but I can’t guarantee it. I also can’t remember where I learned this but I’ll try to so I can give credit where credit is due. Just follow this step by step. It’s really quite easy. You need two free tools.
Just get the free trial of Winrar ( if you don’t already have it ) . Universal Extractor is free and can be found at www.legroom.net. So go ahead and install those and lets rock!!
a) Find your favorite program.
b) Make a new file where you like, and name it. (ie “my File”).
c) Now right click on the setup file of the program you’d like to be portable, and pick “extract with uniextract to a subdirectory”. Extract it into the file you just made.
d) Open the new file you made ( “my file”), and find the .exe file that runs the app. You should see a bunch of files there. Highlight all these files. ( Note: if you only see 1 file, then repeat step (c) on this file. Now you should see several files. Highlight them all).
e) Right click and choose ” add to archive”. Name your archive and select “create SFX archive”. Choose “best” under the category “compression method”.
f) Click the advance tab. Click SFX options. Now type the name of your executable in “run after exraction” under the “setup program category”.
Almost done!
g) In the “Modes tab” click “unpack to temporary folder and hide all”.
h) In the “Update tab” click ”overwrite all files”. Click ok and that’s it.
You’ll now see a single self extracting file that is the .exe . You can copy this to your memory stick or external hard drive and use it anywhere. cool eh!
Great Free programs #2
by John on Jul.04, 2010, under Computing
I have to pick Filezilla as one of the best FTP programs out there. The interface is quite simple and you’ll find yourself dragging and dropping, shuffling and renaming files in no time. If you’re managing multiple sites, you’ll love it’s Quick Connect function, and with several options for a secure connection, you’ll be uploading and downloading files without a worry. As a long time user I can say this program is stable, easy to use and will do almost everything you would find in a paid for application. I would say Filezilla is free must have program.
Funny Walmart Photo Studio story..Sort of…
by John on Jun.19, 2010, under Funny, Rants
So, half my life or so was spent as a photographer. I’ve shot a few hundred weddings. I managed a studio when I was 26. After leaving that job, I moved on to something else, but still kept up the photography on the side. I’ve actually made a fair buck over the years. I opened and ran my own studio for about 5 years. After closing the studio, I continued the photography making money here and there. I’ve quit the business now for many reasons, however I noticed Walmart in Midland Ontario Canada Photo Studio, was hiring. Now we all know Walmart just does “fast food photography”, but I had some time on my hands and decided to apply. I handed my resume to the woman there and let her know I have a portfolio for the manager to look at. She informed me that I wouldn’t need it because they have ” their own set up” and it didn’t matter. Can you imagine, a photo studio of any kind not caring about a portfolio! I thanked the “not-a-photographer” and left. You would think I’d have gotten an interview? A phone call perhaps? I got shit is what I got. It is so funny that with all these years under my belt as a real photographer, that Walmart in Midland Ontario Canada, wouldn’t even call me! Maybe sad is what I mean! I understand the Walmart, “photo studio manager ” in Midland Ontatrio Canada, probably felt threatened by someone who actually knows something about photography and running a studio, but please.. not even a call!!..lol. Oh well, you guys enjoy the ” not a photographer” there, I wouldn’t like the new drive through studios anyway.

Bikers eat your heart out. Top down, doors off, foot hanging out the door with no helmut and the wind in my hair. Now this is freedom!
