2011 Calendar
by John on Oct.14, 2010, under Guy Stuff
Geezz, 2011 is coming and I need to decide on a new calendar for the shop. I’ve decided on a gurly calendar for the year coming. Something to keep the girls out of here I’m hoping. The car calendar didn’t work at all. I must say, deciding whether to buy a nudy calendar or an almost nudy one is a tough decision. See, a nudy calendar I know will work like Kryptonite against Superman. An almost nudy one will work, but with only 50% effectiveness. I don’t want the girls to think I like looking at naked women of course. I’d only be putting it up to keep the girls out of the clubhouse. I mean, none of us guys want to go out to the shop and have to see a new, naked, hot, sexy woman every month. Maybe I can suffer through a Playboy calendar. I hear those are classy. Or should I stick with a bikini one? Man, I just don’t know what to do.
Any thoughts? Maybe I’ll wait and see if Maxim magazine comes out with something good.
Shopsmith Polish Job
by John on Oct.09, 2010, under Guy Stuff

It’s coming along nice. I used “Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish” on the whole thing even the steel. I can’t believe how great that stuff worked. It will all be done next post. I’m going to do a short vid of converting it from one tool to the next in a couple of days so check it out.
1951 Shopsmith ER-10
by John on Oct.02, 2010, under Guy Stuff

Having some large projects around the house to get done, I asked my dad if I could grab the old Shopsmith that has been sitting in storage for god nows how long. He said that would be fine so off we went to get it. For those that don’t know, a Shopsmith ER is basically a table saw, disc sander, drill press and lathe, all wrapped up into one package. I remember the machine being in mint condition, but unfortunately all the years packed away have taken their toll. I’ll need to get all the rust off the way tubes, clean up the aluminum and rewire the switch and motor. I was able to determine through the manual and serial number, that this Shopsmith was made in 1951. It’s also in fairly good shape compared to the ones I’ve seen on the Internet. In fact, many of the hard core Shopsmith guys would tear this apart piece by piece and rebuild it. After a close look, I think I can get it clean and running nice as it sits. So off I go to Canadian Tire for supplies and lets see how this turns out.
Bike Breaks Down….Damn
by John on Sep.12, 2010, under Guy Stuff
Jan and I went biking this week, I thought I’d give my $10 set of wheels a good run. We had a great time traveling along the bay and up to Saint Marie stopping at the Martyrs Shrine. Quite a nice trip. About 35 minutes from home I could feel something going wrong with my gears. I said to Jan ” I think my bike is breaking down”. Sure enough, a minute later I was unable to peddle the thing. Turns out one of the small wheels on the gear system had departed for good never to be seen again. Well, I don’t often go hiking and biking in the same day, but fortunately it was a sunny fn afternoon and I had a new pair of shoes on. Arriving home, I assessed the situation and basically, I was screwed. I did have Jans old bike, “Blister”, in the back shed though, perhaps I’d save some bucks and be able to swap the gear system. I was in luck. Blister had been Lady driven and the Shamano gears were in great shape. Off they came and good news, the system works like a charm on my bike! I felt bad making Blister non-ridable, but sacrifices must be made. I put her back in the shed and realized, having a parts bike is the way to go.
Pentax K-7 is Here! Woohoooo!
by John on Aug.21, 2010, under Guy Stuff
First let me say I ordered my Pentax from B&H out of New York city on Tuesday around lunch time. It arrived Thursday mid afternoon. I also saved $100 – $200. I’ll confirm that next post but man, is that great service or what!! I’m not going to write much right now but my first impression is, this is more camera than I thought I’d ever own. When was the last time you owned a camera you thought could
take a good whack? The thing is a Tank! I need to go and start reading the 325 page manual. Basic stuff is simple so far and next post will be better. Here’s a couple pics of the real deal in my hand. More soon.
Waiting….zzzzz
by John on Aug.19, 2010, under Guy Stuff
I thought I’d make a new sidebar for this page while I’m waiting for the UPS Dude too show up. This is why it looks so nice on the blog page right now. No fear, I’m going to uglify it as quick as I can. Or should I just get rid of the sidebar? Any ideas on what would be cool here? (I mean good Ideas. And you know who I’m talking to “helmet wearer” ) Anyway, lets have some fun and leave me a comment. All two of ya.
